Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, March 28 - Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Ram Charan Chaudhary assumed office after taking oath of office from President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav.

Addressing staffers at the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, the newly-appointed minister said he was inexperienced and asked staffers to provide him wholehearted support.

Chaudhary also pledged to do his best for the welfare of senior citizens, children and women, who have long been discriminated against. Chaudhary noted he needed full support from staffers at the ministry as he was inexperienced.

"I am like a new student and I need your close cooperation to cope with diverse issues involving women, children and social welfare." The ministry, which was under the leadership of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, got the new minister after a long gap. Staffers had been finding it difficult to make crucial decisions as they had limited access to the PM.

Chaudhary also directed government employees to work for the common good of people, who had been longing for change. The minister said support from government staffers was crucial in guiding the country through transition. Earlier, secretary of the ministry Brinda Hada apprised the minister of the ministry's jurisdiction.
